Taking us back into the the root of his debut album “Tsholofelo” is Cassper Nyovest as he reminisces on the release of his 2nd lead single “Doc Shebeleza” which dropped on the 17th of January. Picture a life changing moment that not many would anticipate for as the era of digital consumption was steadily growing but this one individual took a brave risk in their art and shared it for the masses to consume without realising that it would be the single flighting out his career for the greater good. Following the release of “Gusheshe” featuring OkMalumkoolkat in 2013 was numerous compliments from the industry and a lead to inspiration for a platinum selling Hip-Hop project which went on to set standards and break records for the new era of Hip-Hop but we not there yet.
It took guts and a certain amount of bravery to give away your music for free as that potentially lead to a loss of income but not many cared as the then young and passion driven, Cassper Nyovest understood the assignment and the importance of reaching your audience. So this one day, he and his team decided to upload what would go on to become a national anthem “Doc Shebeleza” to Datafilehost which began spreading amongst fellow fans in the streets and local neighbourhoods. What Refiloe and his team were not aware of was that the single would go on to set new standards for the fellow rapper as he went on to shoot stellar visuals with the legendary Victor Bogopane aka “Doc Shebeleza” himself. These visuals populated our television screens with a lovely premiere on what was the hottest music show on ETV, “Club808“.
Through this single and visuals Cassper Nyovest went on to becoming one of the biggest Hip-Hop acts that the country ever witnessed alongside the greats within Hip-Hop. His influential catalogue allowed him to spread his wings and fly as “Doc Shebeleza” was only the start to yet an amazing and legendary journey. Cassper Nyovest took his time to reflect on the 10 year journey of this hit single on Twitter with a heartfelt message.
Today marks 10 years of this song. I was a wild young man. God has moulded me and kept me in his grace. All the glory to God. I’m blessed, greatful and truly humbled by your support. The next 10 years will be more meaningful, more spiritual and monumental!!! Die pope sal… pic.twitter.com/Z5awUeaazq
