    Daughter of the Soil, also known as ‘King Tha,’ graced the Tiny Desk stage, heralding the imminent release of her upcoming album, ‘SANKOFA‘, slated for May. Her influence extends far and wide, cementing her status as a global cultural icon and legend. Equally important, renowned for her exceptional songwriting skills and spirited vocal performances, she captivated the audience in an intimate Tiny Desk Concert, marking over three decades of her profound impact on South African music worldwide.

    In addition, her musical prowess places her in the esteemed company of icons such as Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Dolly Rathebe, and Miriam Makeba (Mama Africa). As a vocalist and songwriter, she commands attention with her powerful voice, profound lyrics, and dynamic stage presence.  Furthermore, beyond her musical endeavors, she is recognized for her activism, championing social justice, women’s rights, and the preservation of African heritage. Continuously shaping South African music and culture, her influence transcends borders, leaving an indelible mark on the global stage.

    In her recent Tiny Desk performance, she paid homage to her enduring artistic journey as a child of the soil. It was a poignant experience, as her impassioned vocals intertwined seamlessly with the band, evoking a range of emotions from the audience.

    Among her repertoire, she performed ‘Children Of The Soil,’ a deeply resonant anthem celebrating roots and identity. What’s more her music serves as a poignant reminder of the artist’s duty to inspire and uplift.

    With the release of her latest single, ‘Kulungile,’ featuring Nduduzo Makhathini, Mazwai delves into themes of self-reflection and healing. The song, akin to a comforting lullaby, gradually builds with soothing instrumentation, offering solace and introspection.

    Clocking in at six minutes, ‘Kulungile’ invites listeners on a transformative journey of healing and self-discovery. Mazwai’s soul-stirring vocals and evocative lyrics create an immersive experience, providing a sanctuary amidst life’s chaos.
