The Johannesburg alternative scene is continuously giving us household names and one such notable name is Marcus Harvey. After a 3-year hiatus, the Alexandra-born artist released a new album titled “Now You Know Me,” following his 2021 EP, “You Still Don’t Know Me.” “Now You Know Me” exemplifies creative growth and self-discovery. Marcus keeps true to his style, incorporating Sepedi, a romantic afro beats feel, rap, and slow jams for the lovers. Marcus Harvey shows his artistic ability to carefully mix genres to deliver his message. In this time, Marcus has also taken considerable strides in his career which include the album, an ongoing collaboration with Levi’s and his recent signing to [STAY LOW].

The album rollout was particularly interesting. In case you missed it, Marcus Harvey gave his listeners a snippet of the songs on the album through an animated short series that co-starred Maglera Doe Boy. Leading up to the album release, Marcus dropped the visuals for “Lerato” and “Malume” – giving us a peek into his world. The two music videos compliment the effort put into the album – both refreshing and showing authenticity. While his new work has been long awaited, Marcus Harvey has kept his audience interested with features and live performances.

I was more than happy to see the release of this new body of work. Artists like Marcus Harvey continue to bring new sounds to the forefront. His music not only speaks to RnB lovers, but to those who are itching for a new sound and feel as well. Even after having listeners eagerly waiting, we can confirm that the release was worth the wait.
