Award-winning DJ and producer CocoSA releases the love song ‘Wahamba,’ featuring Sipho Magudulela and rising stars Sips and NeleSa. Surprisingly, stepping into the world of CocoSA is like unlocking a treasure chest of passion, and pure artistic energy. From his earliest days growing up in Uitenhage, CocoSA was drawn to music like a moth to a flame. Influenced by the rhythmic and soulful melodies of his childhood, his smooth chord progressions and soothing drums now define his unique style. Nevertheless, his journey wasn’t just about discovering music—it was about pushing creative boundaries. Today, CocoSA is more than just a name; he’s a recognized soldier in the buzzing Amapiano movement.
Wahamba follows the success of CocoSA’s internationally acclaimed debut single, I Never Thought. In addition, his collaboration with Artwork Sounds, Music & Love, further solidifies his footing in the global music community. We chatted with him about his journey with love and loss and his connection to Zakes Bantwini’s hit Osama.
Amapiano is known for its dance culture—do you have a signature move, or do you leave that to the fans?
Haha, I definitely leave that to the fans! I’m more about creating the vibes that make people move. But if you see me vibing behind the decks, just know the music is hitting right!
Your new single Wahamba is about to drop—what inspired the song, and what story does it tell?
Wahamba is a song about love and loss. It’s about that moment when someone walks away, and you’re left with the emotions, the memories, and the what-ifs. The beat carries the groove, but the vocals and melodies hit deep. It’s a song you can dance to, but also a song you can feel.
What’s the one song—besides your own—that you never get tired of playing in your sets? What makes it special?
It has to be Osama by Zakes Bantwini. That track has a spiritual energy—it connects people, whether you’re in a club, at a festival, or just chilling at home. That’s what music should do.
Wahamba blends soulful house and amapiano beautifully. How did you approach merging these genres in this track?
I come from a deep house background, so blending soulful house with amapiano comes naturally to me. With Wahamba, I wanted to keep that emotional depth from house music but still bring the log drum and groove that makes amapiano so powerful. It’s about balance—giving the song space to breathe while keeping the energy alive.
What was it like working with rising stars Ssips and NeleSa, and what do you think they bring to the song?
Man, they both brought something special. Ssips’s unique tone adds so much texture, and NeleSa just knows how to deliver emotion in her vocals. They understood the vision from the start, and their energy in the studio was amazing.
Winning a Metro FM Award is a big deal. How has the recognition influenced your career and creative direction?
It’s definitely a blessing and a motivation. It showed me that people are really connecting with my sound. But at the same time, I don’t let it change how I create—I stay true to what feels right and keep pushing the boundaries of my music.

His rise has been nothing short of extraordinary. Undoubtedly, his merging of deep house, Afro-tech, and rich, immersive storytelling has captivated audiences across the globe. Also, electrifying festival stages and an intimate underground set feel his unmistakable presence—lingering long after the last note fades. “I’m excited to share Wahamba with the world,” says CocoSA. “Working with Sipho, Sips, and NeleSa was an incredible experience, and I’m proud of what we’ve created.” Without a doubt, his chart-topping collaborations and connection with listeners allow him to blaze a new trail in the electronic music scene. However, behind the success, there’s an artist who remains deeply committed to authenticity, innovation, and the pure love of sound.
Amapiano continues to dominate the music scene—how do you keep your sound fresh and unique in such a competitive genre?
For me, it’s about staying rooted in my own style and influences. I don’t chase trends—I create music that feels authentic. I also love experimenting, whether it’s bringing in soulful elements, jazz, or even Afro-house influences. That’s what keeps my sound evolving.
What’s the most unexpected place or moment where you’ve heard your own song playing?
Yo, one time, I was at a random spot in another country, just chilling, and I heard my track playing. I was like, “Wait… is that me?” That moment made me realize how far the music travels—it’s crazy.
What do you hope listeners will feel when they hear Wahamba for the first time?
I want them to feel something real. Whether it reminds them of someone they lost, or just makes them move, I want Wahamba to connect with people on a deeper level. That’s the magic of music—it can touch the heart and the feet at the same time.
What’s next for CocoSA after Wahamba? Can fans expect more collaborations, an album, or even an international tour?
There’s a lot coming! More collaborations, more music, and yes, definitely an international tour. I’m working on something special for the fans, so they should stay locked in—I’m just getting started.
