2024 was an eye opening year for many artists as they began establishing their core fan-base community which was initially led by the amazing craft that they put out into the world. Amongst these great acts that we got to discover and support is uprising R&B singer and songwriter, Nanette who has managed to work with many great acts from various genres such as Kelvin Momo representing Amapiano and Nasty C representing Hip-Hop.
Her EP “The Waiting Room” truly set standards for the fellow artist as she kept on rising and receiving well deserved recognition within the industry to an extent where she hosted an intimate show late last year at the “Untitled Basement” in Braamfontein where she was showered with more love from not only her fans but then industry peers and colleagues.

Following the success that 2024 came bearing for the uprising superstar, she further cemented her name in the game with her amazing visuals for “I got it” 5 months ago which was then complimented by a small gift to her fans that are deep in love with a cute lyric music video for her single, “Stake” on the 13th of February 2025, the day before Valentine’s Day. One can say that divine timing truly lives in the air as there couldn’t have been a much more better time than now. Nanette now returns with a soothing two track release one being titled “Bad” and the other “Money Can’t Save Me”.

1. “Bad”
The two track single pack is first opened by the smooth and easing tune “Bad” which is an R&B single that touches on a story plot around a woman that is stuck between her old ways and new ways as she continues to grow and understand her value but then somehow her old ways just keep catching up with her which alludes to her reminiscing on her bad ways and realising that perhaps she is not yet ready to let go of that side of her life. It is an easy listen tune as it sets a calm and soulful tone over a gentle guide from Nanette’s angelic voice. “Bad” truly establishes an emotive and grounding pace as it is a slow track that quite sticks for more intimate moments.
2. “Money Can’t Save Me”
This is then followed by “Money Can’t Save Me” which brings in a bright and fresh feel to the pack through a positive message that is well delivered and layered by Nanette and the production team. The single infuses Raggae sonics with soulful sonics to showcase a heartwarming story as she touches on spiritual, love and standardising elements of life. Not only does this tune allow us to experience a more grown side to Nanette’s musical path and creative approach but then also just her as a person as she addresses what the world has become through setting monetary value around love but then forgetting that true love can never be bought hence we all urn for ‘Jah’s’ love which is the ultimate level of love and guess what, it is free.
In a brief interview around the two tracks with her label manager Nanette shared, The inspiration behind ‘Bad’ was captivating, beautiful women. I am in awe of all women and everything they’re able to accomplish while being such beautiful, sexy, mysterious beings. I think it’s really cool to see them in all their glory.” Nanette further shared, “Money Can’t Save Me’ was inspired by womanhood and the experience of being a woman in the 21st century. I think as women, we all strive so hard to be successful—to have the perfect job, the perfect life—but all of this still isn’t enough to protect us from the hardships and expectations of being a woman.”
In honesty, I truly enjoyed the two track pack as it did not only allow for me to understand the world of Nanette but then also learn various perspectives towards this thing called life. It is a well executed single pack and I felt that we needed more tracks even if it is just one more, that is how good the pack is, leading me to rating it a 9/10. I can’t wait till we get visuals and more music from the talented uprising superstar as her stars continue to shine bright.
