Following the release of her sophomore album “If I’m really being Honest” in August, which features the likes Touchline, CeaZarbantu, Khaya DoomAKU, Nyota Parker, and Keishakay is South African rapper, songwriter, and producer, Tasha HendrixX. The fellow artist had a great run this year as she served us great music with a highly moving story, each song guided us over a continuous storyline that extended toward her sentiments surrounding the music industry and her personal life journey from the disappointing moments, depressing moments, healing moments to the joyous and peaceful moments. Picture a plain canvas where you could paint whatever came to mind from a form of emotional expression to what the eye sees in front of it. This canvas would then serve as a motivating board or art piece for the regular individual navigating life, except that what they see resembles what they can resonate with on that canvas.
That is what the album is as it vividly expands the day-to-day challenges that every creative and human on earth endures with some on an intense level. From the production to the writing of each song, one can truly feel the emotional and intellectual depth based on one’s personal experience. Each track is diligently written with a purpose solely to inspire the next being and as well as raise awareness around certain issues or conflicts that many battle with internally. One of my favorite singles off the album is “No Favours” which is simply based on Tasha’s various experiences within the music space and her practically taking jabs towards those that led to the many endured escapades. “No Favours” can be relatable to various matters in life outside of the music and entertainment space. One can also view it in the light that no one owes you anything.
You owe yourself the efforts to succeed or make things work out in the manner that you view it but refrain from relying on other people doing things for you as you will reach a point of disappointment so don’t do that to yourself. Now this message speaks on a higher base as many have to endure the torture from people who feel superior enough to not respect others but again life always comes back to humble one in due course.
Tasha truly understood that as she recently released the official music video for “No Favours” which depicts a cinematic theme where one is in an interrogation room receiving one heck of a speech from a dictator who is trying to control her career and vision but she pushes beyond the limits by simply not caring and doing what she loves with a passionate heart. This left a slight note in mind that in life, no matter where it may take you, learn to take things with a pinch of salt and live your life peacefully. That is how you build the right character to succumb to all these horrendous and demotivating moments through a conquering spirit. I truly enjoyed the music video as well as the album as a collective. It truly extended my experience sonically and left a taste of sweet excitement for the next thing that is to follow.
