The rising punk trio Internet Girl releases their highly anticipated project ROLE MODEL. The EP reflects the band’s growth, evident in the singles “ROLE MODEL” and “COKEHEAD”. Comprised of Ntsika Bungane, Matthew Burgess, and James Smith, the band continuously redefines boundaries with their music. As South Africa’s Next Up, they push boundaries since their 2019 formation, fusing neo-rave and punk elements to create their own soundscape. Building on their earlier work, Parasocial Interaction, ROLE MODEL combines rebellious attitudes and gritty instrumentals. The EP marks a mature and diverse direction from their previous project, “Parasocial Interaction.” The EP’s opener, “Cokehead,” sets an explosive tone with intense drum patterns and raw vocals. The song describes a misfit’s confusing life journey through substance use and sobriety. The chorus exudes controlled chaos, combining upbeat punk tones and engaging melodies.
The second track, “Every Man for Himself,” featuring re6ce, explores themes of individualism and survival in a cutthroat world. The aggressive beats and distorted vocals create an atmosphere of urgency and resilience. “Kids,” featuring 4TUNAT and Godly the Ruler, offers a playful yet poignant reflection on youth and rebellion. Catchy hooks and vibrant melodies characterize this track.
