Music is far beyond high quality production and lyricism, it is therapy to many. It is used to document the structures of the world through the perspective of the artists. One producer and DJ that understood the assignment and dwelled deep into the heart is Polokwane’s very own, Cyfred with his 2023 project “Made Under The Spirit”. The project encapsulates Cyfred’s 4 year journey in the industry since his debut single in 2019 titled, “Umshiso“.
He has grown not only sonically as a producer but as a human holistically and he showcases this through each track on the project. He features the likes of Tman Xpress; Kelvin Momo; Babalwa M; Musa Keys; Nkosazana Daughter and many more on the 6 track project. I heard about this amazing project at a listening session in Rosebank a few days before its release. The production and direction by Cyfred were truly moving. I took my time to let the music grow on me before forming my own perspective on how it resonates with me.
And for me the artistic piece tackled a bunch of real-life issues like hunger and spiritual battles. “Made Under The Spirit” by Cyfred is amazing because each track reflects his own mental, emotional and spiritual struggles. It’s not just about the music, but also about how he intends to inspire others. My top favourite single has to be “Melu’vuke Ndoda,” as it touches on a young man who overcomes his isolation and finds a better way to living his life.
Cyfred’s future looks bright as he continues to progress in his career and personal life. This year promises to be an exciting one for the multi-talented producer.
