Up-and-coming artists allow us the pleasure of indulging in the simple pleasure of experiencing music and art. An artist’s coming-of-age is a time when they are their hungriest. The new listeners and diehard fans get to indulge blissfully in the artistic exploration of a new artist’s sound. Archi, a 22-year-old alternative songwriter, and producer has been the talk of the timeline in the first few months of 2023. The release of a visual for his new single ‘Bonez’ solidifies him as an act to watch in South Africa’s progressive, alternative music scene. On the 9th of March, earlier this month, Archi released his second EP titled ‘Sentimental Tones’. Evidently from his music, he has a very explorative and experimentive nature that he loves to show through his music. This aspect built some anticipation for the visuals of one of the leading songs featured on his EP, called ‘Bonez’, featuring the incredible ZRi.
There’s an array of elements that are in the music video that mirror the magnificence of the single. This is both shown in the direction and editing of the music video as done by Sizwe Mibisi. In collaboration as well with the director of photography, Khumo Modise. The single features wonderful melodic tones, but feels like you are gently entering a trip. Layering the single with tonal value through vocal work and texture, creates an emotive journey out of the song.

It was fantastically produced by Steveisfrench, as well as co-written and performed by Archi and Zri. Sonically, the song has a story of which the visuals and film solidify. The editing style is surreal and somewhat trippy, mostly supporting the alternate genre that the song is in. The song itself is extremely cathartic, as we see Archi watching himself in the music video. In the performance of the music video, a sense of knowing that you are being watched is created, nothing alarming but rather a curious deal. The incredible visuals were supported by ‘Loud Republic’ and not to mention, a great creative team. We look forward to see more of Archi’s musical explorations as he channels more and more of his talents!
