Tyson Sybateli is no stranger to the Hip Hop scene as he naturally grew into the art of producing, song writing then later rapping. The Umlazi born Pretoria-based rapper has come full-circle and highlights his journey and all his achievements with new single drop, which is evidence that ‘It Worked’. We got to have a brief discussion with Tyson Sybateli about his new journey with Sony Music Africa and his latest single ‘It Worked’. Check out the interview with Tyson Sybateli below.

In this industry, partnerships are incredibly important. What partnerships would you like to form now that you have the backing of Sony?

The music industry is based on community, the artists are one community I’d like to expand with the help of Sony as well as the Media community. Working with a entity that has good relationships with platforms I want to be more informed on, helps me to maximize my creativity overall.

Considering the successful rollout for your 2022 project, ‘Home’. How would you say this rollout for ‘IT WORKED’ introduced your brand to a new and broader audience? And did you reference any rollout when planning the announcement of ‘IT WORKED’?

This year’s work is just a build on last year, anything I would’ve done after my project was going to be a step forward, I’m glad a single with a hook this time is doing that. The theme going forward is “Kill Bill” to name one example.

What inspired your latest single ‘IT WORKED’? And can we expect a project from you this year?

My single “It Worked.” was inspired by me trying be in the moment and accept the growth from my previous music drops bringing the nation to hear my every word and accept my current situation to do music full time being out of work. The song is a declaration of things changing for the better.

How did the partnership with Sony come about?

Sony was the only entity out of the ones that approached me that voiced a realistic concern for how I do my music from my process to the toll on my mental and offered a solution to even out the workload I had and pointed out the roof one will hit early being naive to change, learning and growing beyond a internet moment.

How do you think the new partnership with Sony will assist you with growing your brand further seeing that you moved from being independent?

A major artist and indie artist nowadays have access to the same channels and platforms just different teams or no teams at all involved in the art process. I went from no team indie to a good team that is responsible for big brands worldwide so I’ll be good.

What challenges did you face when you were independent and how did you work out of those challenges?

I legit had no team to manage multiple tasks and was juggling a job and fell short in alot of my rollout ideas and funding them from my pocket. I made do with what I could get done and didn’t shift blame cause I had no one to blame.

What would you advice any fellow rapper to prioritise when trying establish their musical brand to the general public?

I’d really just tell musicians to focus on who they making their music for and why. If you doing this music cause it’s fun and that’s all, thats fine. If you doing this because you see a future then learn and respect the art and business practices all round.

You are one artist that many cannot predict what their next move is. Is there something major that fans can look forward to this year aside of a project (if any)?

I’m not dropping an album, not dropping a EP and I’m not dropping a ‘Playlist” either. My next move is a leading one-two punch approach with art. Art needs to be experienced in the moment its digested.

With the increase of demand in the R&B space, would you ever extend into that direction if you could?

I don’t think genres exist anymore so truthfully everybody is a dance artist and RnB artist and a lyricist all in the same breath. I’ve been doing RnB in my style and its shows with my warm fan base.

The new single is a must listen as you get to experience Tyson Sybateli on a new level as he aims at inspiring and motivating all of his fans to chase their dreams and shine.

I love what I do on a daily basis as I get to help out fellow African creatives spread out their work to the world. I am a diverse individual as I do not limit myself to one group or type of content. I am always open to receiving new work from other individuals as that is my way of maintaining the culture in quality form.
