2023 had its ups and downs but music kept us together as we received a variety of music within the various genres from Amapiano to RnB and Hip-Hop. We had great releases and some bad releases over the year and some undiscovered gems which remained undiscovered but is very good art for the ears to consume. Tasha HendrixX‘s “BlackD Out” project is one of those undiscovered gems that need to be shared with the world further as it possess a strong message and great production. The 8-track project features the likes of Oriiginelle; Jay Jody; PdotO and Don Trozo.
I first discovered Tasha HendrixX in late 2022 when she had just released her 5 track EP “Black or White” which I was reviewing whilst I was still working for SlikourOnLife and I remember just being moved by her pen game and production towards the EP. If anything, I was astonished as to why she was not bubbling under or charting some playlists as she knows how to narrate a story that many can resonate to when listening to her music. Fast forward to 2024, I receive a text from her management submitting the project and I knew the name, just couldn’t familiarise it until I opened the link. Was I not jumping up and down out of excitement as it has been over a two years since Tasha released any new music so I knew that I was up for an experience.
The project is initially harmonised with a prayer titled, “No Sense” as Tasha pleads for guidance and protection from the things of the world as she expresses her Godly given gift and how spiritual the art of music is. In the intro Tasha seeks for answers in a lost world filled with lost souls. Tasha then follows the set tone with a letter for peace titled, “Toxic Love” as she reminisces on her past encounters of love. It serves as a hope for a healthy type of love in which we can give ourselves before giving it to others. “Searching” is my favourite off the project as Tasha expresses the importance of self-seeking for freedom, mentally, emotionally and spiritually as we will all reach a time someday where we may need to let go of who we once were and press the reset button to find which chapter in our lives we are in.
“Burnt Bridges” featuring Oriiginelle then takes us into a world of imagination as Tasha makes peace with closing off certain chapters of her life that no longer serve a purpose in her life and this means even relationships that do not exuberate her value in life. This album is worth the listen as it showcases a side of Tasha that many may have not heard before. “BlackD Out” is more of a diary that taps into the heart and world of Tash HendrixX as she has had to experience a variety of challenges in life that have either led to her feeling worthless or set back. In the album, she refuses to let those challenging moments/experiences to define her life as she reclaims her value and self-belief in God. If you are into conscious rap with a mixture of alternative and jazz sounds, you will enjoy this gem. Definitely worth the listen in 2024.
As the year continues to move, I am dearly excited to see what else Tasha Hendrixx has for us in the vault. Wishing her all the best in her career as she continues to grow and stay true to her brand. In the meantime, let us support Tasha in her journey by checking out her project below.
