AKA has one of the most mind blowing career starting stories as he first started off under a group namely known as Entity with his friends, Vice Versa and Greyhound in 2002. They then went on to creating amazing art that eventually got recognised by the KORA Awards for the Best African Hip-Hop category.
The group went on to splitting in 2006 after their 4 year endeavour, this was when we saw the creation of The IV League with Buks and Kamza. Under this production company AKA alongside Buks and Kamza worked on records for the likes of Khuli Chana, ProKid and JR. This inspired AKA to work on his own music of which we got a taste of in 2009 as he debuted his first three singles as a solo artist titled, ‘In My Walk’, ‘Do It’ and ‘Mistakes’. He then went on to releasing his debut album in 2011 titled, ‘Alter Ego’. This album opened all the right doors for him as he went on to winning awards as well as collaborating with acts such as Burna Boy, Yanga, KO, Blxckie, Musa Keys, Nasty C, Stogie T and much more. The rapper was mainly known for his amazing lyricism and ability to create hits as in his prime he was able to create art such as Fela in Versace, All Eyes On Me, Jika, 10 Fingers, Energy, All Eyes On Me and much more. He was currently preparing for the release of his forthcoming album, Mass Country of which he gave us a taste with the release of Lemons (Lemonade) with Nasty C, Prada with Khuli Chana and Paradise with Gyakie and Musa Keys.
It was just last night when the whole country received the devastating news of AKA’s passing in Durban as he was shot to death alongside his longtime friend, Tebello Motsoane and things have not been the same since as many were confused to why would this happen. Fans and fellow industry friends as well as colleagues took to socials to show love to the late rapper as they paid their respects.
To the Forbes family, we thank you for raising such an honourable man as he created art that resonated with many people across the country. He did not only inspire many kids in this country but he also created opportunities for them. We are sorry for your loss and send our condolences as we all mourn the passing of your son, grandson, nephew and cousin.
To AKA, thank you for the constant support and the wise words you left me with. I will forever cherish the conversations and acknowledgement above everything. It is still difficult to grasp that you are really gone but only God knows at this point. Love you lots brother.
Rest in paradise.
