Despite the brown shade of autumn leaves and earlier, chilly sunsets, the changing seasons bear greener pastures for Durban, KwaZulu-Natal-born multidisciplinary artist OB Magik. Flourishing in his coming-of-age era, the palatable talent has his tunnel vision set on claiming his stake in the music industry with the release of his highly anticipated single titled “Shelela,” taken from his upcoming project, “Transparency.”

Co-produced by OB Magik & Paular Dlamini ‘’Shelela’’ captures the celebratory form of Afro Beats sensibilities where a refreshingly honest Magik enunciates a delicate balance of bravado and humility, narrating his current phase of his come-up with Joe Frazer knockout penmanship noted in the hypnotic hook “Mfanakithi Kwa Kwehlela/Kudala Kwak’sinda kwehlela/Bheka manje kyashelela” which loosely translates to ‘’My brother it was rough and heavy but look now it’s smooth.’’

From being nominated for best producer in the Durban Creative Awards (2020), debuting with a critically acclaimed offering, “For The Taking,” featuring the likes of Musiholiq and Abdus, dominating stages such as Back to The City Festival as a top 8 battle finalist, Rap Ifact Hood Vs Hood (Hosted By Zakwe) winning the contested man of the match title, and hosting his event, The Magik Xperience at The Warehouse in March, OB Magik continues to earn his stripes and “Shelela” serves as an oracle of the success awaiting him on the other side of his tenacious work ethic which set him apart from his peers.

“Transparency” is due for release later this year. Be sure to stream/download “Shelela”, request the smash hit on your favourite radio stations and connect with OB Magic for more music news.

I am a black girl who loves good music. The commercial and underground South African music scene is buzzing, and I would love my corner of the internet to highlight that buzz.
