Following the announcement of the release of her 2nd album titled, ‘Ugcobo’ with a track list reveal is multi-platinum selling artist Nomfundo Moh as she releases the lead single from her forthcoming album titled ‘Amalobolo’ featuring Big Zulu.
The song is more or less an infusion of the Maskandi sound with a touch of pop as she unites her traditional sounds from the ladies ululating in the background which serves as a sign of celebration to the actual Maskandi guitar that gives the song the lift it best deserves. ‘Amalobola’ is a song about a woman who has been a lengthy relationship with her partner and she has been waiting for quite some time for him to start showing his commitment into the relationship through a sign of marriage. In African tradition that would be the ‘bridal price’ which the man goes to pay respectively at the partner’s family home where they will negotiate the fee and have it paid off as a sign of the two unifying the families with a forthcoming wedding.
Now the woman has been waiting but feels that her man is too comfortable with the dating life and she is witnessing all of her friends getting their lobola fee paid off and getting married. She is then singing out her concerns with hopes that he will get the message and finally make the effort to marry her even if it is traditionally until the official white wedding.
This is a very beautiful song as I feel that it will become an anthem for many couples across the country as many that have been dating for years will relate to her story. ‘Amalobola’ definitely sets the tone for the album in the meantime as we wait for the 2nd single from the album to be released. Let us appreciate this masterpiece that she has put together for all of us including those that have been in relationships for many years.
