Hailing from a small town in Free State is multifaceted artist Nino Fresko as he accompanies his 2nd lead single “SENSETIVE” with his 2nd full length project titled “FLY FOR MAGRIZA”. The project showcases his flawless storytelling with an infusion with various sounds whilst maintaining the Hip-Hop structure. “Fly For Magriza” opened up with a cinematic intro featuring rapper and producer Ivy Leeg titled “Pilot” with an ear grabbing transition over to a modern trap style similar to what you would hear from a Baby Keem.
Nino then follows with a more mellow conscious track titled “Batho” which taps into the daily struggles that many individuals endure in the townships with close to no support from the so deemed “governing system”. The track is quite inspiring as it is a cry for change and growth as well as support as we are all humans and we go through things. He then follows with a more uptempo single “Kasi Girl” featuring Fentse. and Keeme. The song is well ridden with a unique flow and raps around a beautiful lady in which he takes the time to express his appreciation for her.
Honestly, I really love this album. Nino Fresko’s music taste is so diverse and this album showcases an experimental side of Hip-Hop that many artists are afraid to explore. “Fly For Magriza” tells the story of a farm boy who stays true to his roots despite living in the city. The art cover matches the production and narrative perfectly.
I personally give the Album a rating of 8.5/10 as it truly represents the direction and atmosphere of current South African hip-hop in true iconic style where a range of artists, sounds and producers unite for one artistic purpose. which is “Fly For Magriza” with my top favourite single being “Faith” as I got to discover new artists by the names of Khalee G and Saint Cielo who gave the closing section of the project depth with the track as they express a reflective perspective that many can resonate to in a creative perspective.
