It has been over 8 months since the release of J-Smash’s latest body of work “Toxic Perfectionism” which features the likes of Thato Saul, Kwesta, Given Da Chief, Emtee, Amanda Black and many more. This project was beyond just being a Hip-Hop project as it details a time in the prominent producer’s life where he needed light in his life and was struggling to find it due to numerous environmental factors. The album practically paints a vivid picture of recovery as he finally recovered and was able to revive his state of mind to a more functional state. It is sonically ahead as it showcases brand new talent from Venda with the aim of penetrating the mainstream scene with Venda rappers and creating a whole new lane for fellow artists from Venda that would allow them to be free and be themselves. It is rich in culture and detail.
If you haven’t yet given this magnificent project a listen, please do listen to it right here as we prepare to dive into the making of it. J-Smash recently took to his socials to announce a brand-new limited series which sees him dissect the album that he holds dearest to his heart titled “Dissecting Toxic Perfectionism” with Episode one being out already. The first episode practically explores the foundational details as to how the idea behind making the album came about. It is quite insightful as you learn parts about him that you never thought he would expose as he becomes vulnerable by the day. We truly cannot wait for the 2nd episode which we do not know when it will drop but the journey to it is quite needed as today’s generation doesn’t really invest in breaking down their productions.
