Following the release of his lead single ‘Where & Where‘ with Maarly is Pretoria Rapper, Ivy Leeg. He now returns with his full length Mixtape titled, ‘IVY: The Mixtape’ which features the likes of August Child on ‘Fame‘, Nino Fresko on ‘Tonic’ and Maarly on ‘Talk About’.
The 10 track project is a rollercoaster of classic Hip-Hop sounds as Ivy Leeg showcases his ability to metaphorically play with words and address serious societal issues through his hardcore lyrics. My top favourite is ‘Talk About’ as it is all about love and a conversation between him and his ‘lover’. Maarly then brings in the ear catching element to the song with her mellow vocals. He further addresses his faults in his current relationship in the single ‘Trippin’ as you hear his lover complaining in a backing voice note. He touches on how special she is to him and how much she has done for him as well as how different she is to his previous partners.
This project is a must listen to as you get to understand who Ivy Leeg is and what he is all about as he raps on his life fully including him having a ‘law degree’ which is something that not many people know about him. It is a pretty open book for those that would like to read, solely Hip-Hop lovers as he infuses the trap sounds with the classic Hip-Hop beats. His producer, CreatedByDNA clearly understood the assignment and was able to get the job done in the most artistic way possible.
