Interview: Flowzbeatz Speaks On The Music Scene In KZN, ‘Ngeke’, Future Plans And More

Hailing from a small town in Newcastle, KZN is an up and coming Amapiano music producer by the name of Flowzbevtz and recently released a single titled, ‘Ngeke’ which blew our minds away as we could not help but to keep it on repeat. This then lead to us being curious enough to wanting to do an interview with the fellow producer as he gets to breakdown the song as well as who he is.

Below is the QnA we did with him, we hope it details enough information for you to go check out the song if you haven’t.

    Why the name Flowzbevtz?
My neighbour back in Newcastle had a lot of influence on the name. Simply, I make beats, produce, sing, and rap. As Diddy would say, “I lace the beat and I rock the flow.” So, the name, Flowzbevtz (pronounced Flows beats).

    How did Ngeke come about?
It was challenging because it was not my typical sound. I intentionally wanted to mimic the 66 types of vibes. Together with my pal, “Jay Ur Mate” we pulled it off. When we tested it with a crowd, they went buck wild. To top it off, when it dropped it debuted on the AmaPiano Grooves playlist, so Clearly, it’s a special record. Everyone should stream it.

Tell us about the message behind Ngeke.
When I was making the song, I was telling myself that “Ngeke ngize ngihluleke” meant I will not fail so I saved the project files as Ngeke. The name stuck. And now we are selling Ngeke t-shirts.

The business side of music is vital for artists to study, is this something you take part in?
Fortunately, I have an uncle who is my mentor and a Music Business Consultant, Andile Nkosi. So far, he has held my hand teaching me song registration, publishing, contracting, distribution, and more. I’m thankful for him on this journey and am learning every day.

    Your wish for your career?
I want to be an Internationally Recognised artist and producer. I want to help a handful of talented artists from my hometown, Newcastle too. Seeing the “Fresh From” range in stores nationwide is another dream of mine. Our hoodies are tops.

Any upcoming projects that we should look out for?
I’m dropping the second leg of the “Short Left AmaPiano” trilogy. The first one was AmaPiano Street now it’s AmaPiano Crescent. I have a few dope features on it including Bassie and Audio Addicts, so make sure you follow FlowzBevtz on Spotify, so you are on my release radar and get all my exclusives first.

How has growing up in Newcastle moulded your view on the entertainment industry?
Newcastle, especially my hood Madadeni gave me the sound and stories I tell in my music. It’s known for its soccer stars, and I want the same respect for my music.

How do you plan on impacting the music scene in KZN through your craft?
I want the kid from a small town to know it’s possible to make it through hard work regardless of where you are from. So, I intend to do a school tour targeting the small KZN towns. Also, I got where I am today by rapping my hood. Check out my catalogue and you’ll see; I think I have more than 3 songs with Madadeni on them. I want KZN, to rep KZN like Maftown did. Like Pro did. Rap your hood then the culture will grow.

I love what I do on a daily basis as I get to help out fellow African creatives spread out their work to the world. I am a diverse individual as I do not limit myself to one group or type of content. I am always open to receiving new work from other individuals as that is my way of maintaining the culture in quality form.
