Hanna first rose to recognition on the internet during the time of Covid 19 with her debut mixtape “The Girl in the Durag“. The release of this project set her apart from the masses as she sonically infused various sounds creating a stamp for herself in the industry. This allowed her to further grow in the game and connect with talented acts across the country from the likes of Nadia Nakai to the likes of PHFAT and many more. She then took a break from dropping music in 2021 as she participated in features whilst completing her studies and working on her own music to drop in future. The future has since landed as she recently graduated from her studies as well as gifted her fans with a brand new 5 track EP titled “Guilt Free”.
The multi-talented rapper first announced the release late last year during her set at Rocking The Daisies as she performed “Guilt Free”. The project has since arrived and it features a variation of flavours from mellow production songs to fun filled production songs. Through this EP, Hanna explores and expresses numerous emotions and feelings as she stands on the person she has become from the challenges she has had to succumb. “Guilt Free” is a vivid painting into Hanna’s world of sophistication and self-work as she spent time pouring into herself which allowed her to create the art. It is indeed a beautiful journey as she lets go of who she once was as well as her past problems as they do not define nor align with who she is currently.
My favourite single is “Guilt Free” as it is more of a celebratory single from the production of the trumpets to the light hook and verse. It won me over when I first heard it last year during her set at Rocking The Daisies and now that it formed part of this amazing project, I could not be happier. The EP is a core representation of what it truly means to take the liberty to try to know yourself and stand for your truth artistically from the various sounds explored on “Props” and “Metropolis” to Hanna’s lyricism across the whole project. I personally give it a rating of 8.5 out of 10 and would repeat it over and over again. It is a must add to your library if you are looking for something positive, light, transforming and unique as you will find all of these elements in the project.
I cannot wait to hear and see what else Hanna has to unfold in the course of the year and where this EP truly leads her to but I know that it will be a great one for her.
