Rapper and songwriter Raf Don, known for his love of the Drill sound, presents a tale of love and patience in his latest EP “Pretty Likkle Ting.” The 4-track EP demonstrates Raf Don’s versatility as he blends RnB and hip-hop with the essence of Drill. “Pretty Likkle Ting” was released on July 2nd and starts with a serene and soothing intro, followed by his rendition of “Bedrock” by Young Money. In this single, he samples the flow and hook over a drill and Mexican-influenced beat, skillfully layering his verse with captivating lyrics and melodies.
The short project features the likes of KLY, VERRB, and Robot Boii in which they all understand the creative direction, thus contributing their utmost efforts towards this spectacular project. When I first heard the EP I honestly struggled with understanding the sound, but as time went on, it steadily brewed in and became a general listen for me in my library. The experimentation and throwbacks truly felt like I was in a modern-day time capsule that held blissful memories about love and happiness. I felt that the EP was greatly produced although at some point, there was a missing piece to it in which I trust that Raf Don shall come through with the fillers in his next release which leads me to rating it 7.5/10.
With that being said, I cannot wait to hear what else the multi-talented rapper and songwriter has in the vault as he is clearly onto something spectacular with the sound. Him and Shaney Jay are a perfect combination when it comes to the sonic approach as they truly found a sound and tone that they can all stand out from.
