South African and Nigerian rappers Touchline and Capt.Dyse join forces in a new hip-hop single, “I Pray.” The collaboration, accompanied by tidy visuals, is a first between the two artists and nourishes the Nigerian/South African musical pipeline. With the picturesque city of Cape Town as the backdrop, the music video synergizes with every rapper’s dream to conquer the world. The track is a multilingual mashup with a heartfelt message about hoping and praying for a better future. Moreover, Touchline’s allegories compliment CaptDyse’s sing-song flow in this genuine track about the blessing found in persistence.
Ayobami Dyse Onafuye, professionally known as Capt.Dyse, is a South African-based Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He sharpens his sound with every release, settling on a contemporary take on African hip-hop. Also, Capt.Dyse is a dream chaser who used his National Diploma in Fine Arts to pursue a music career away from his home country. Furthermore, his do-or-die spirit is a detail about his character we can all identify with and one he shares with Touchline.
Raised in the energetic township of Tembisa, Touchline is appreciated as one of South Africa’s most exciting rappers. Born Thabo Mahlwele, he boasts a fanbase devoted to his outlook on life within and beyond the township. In addition, his contribution to the enthusiasm around the South African hip-hop scene is immense. This collaboration is yet another step in that direction. “I Pray” comes on the heels of his inclusion in the extended line-up of the legacy concert by hip-hop star Kwesta, whom he considers one of his idols. He makes up for what he lacks in experience with charismatic, collaborative energy. Above all, Touchline’s efforts and attitude promise to keep him and his music alive for years to come.

The music video was directed by Cape Town-based photographer and videographer Nkulu Jacob. As a frequent collaborator with CaptDyse, his visionary eye secures him as an ace for sleek visuals. African hip-hop’s growth continues to burst at the seams. Indeed, Nkulu Jacob’s artistic eye will soon be a valuable addition to the creative experience.
