Multi-hyphenates don’t have difficulty crossing between art forms; Kay Sibiya is no different. Actor turned DJ Khumbulani ‘Kay’ Sibiya places his fit in the door with debut Afro-house single ‘Kuyabongwa.’ With the help of the talented Jey Charles, Kay hits the ground running with this compelling single. Also, while Amapiano takes over the world, ‘Kuyabongwa’ reminds us about home and giving thanks.

The track channels a well-known iGwijo, “Kuyabongwa,” which translates to “it is being praised” or “it is being appreciated.” iGwijo or amagwijo is an isiXhosa call-and-response song typically sung at sport or traditional events. Moreover, “Kuyabongwa” embodies the spirit of celebratory spirit, appreciation, and praise. ” Furthermore, with production led by Obiie King, the single leaves a lasting impression. Therefore, it is a promising candidate as a nostalgic tune in a few years.

Kay Sibiya’s ability to create such a vibrant song does not come as a surprise. He seems to be at the right place and at the right time, with the creativity necessary to stay booked. His outstanding work on SABC 1’s flagship soapie Uzalo gained him the popularity essential to the brand he represents. Importantly, his stint on Showmax’s hit show, The Wife, is another example of his resilience and versatility. This single is just the beginning of Kay’s journey as a musical artist. Nevertheless, he managed to create a South African sound effortlessly, which will benefit his evolution over time.

“Wedding. Graduation. [You] bought your first car. New job,” he said in a recent Instagram post. Gratitude is a popular theme in Afro music, and Kay Sibiya adds his flair to Afro-house’s fervour. Catchy and upbeat music will saturate radio stations as the festive holiday season draws near. However, Kuyabongwa certainly stands out as a track that was not crafted by a newbie, even though he is. “The list is endless, but for every moment, kuyabongwa,” he said about places to play and use the track. Luckily, the end of the year comes with moments of reflection. Despite your challenges, ‘Kuyabongwa’ lets you reminisce and give thanks for the good things.

Join Kay Sibiya as he explores a new creative avenue to connect with people. Listen to ‘Kuyabongwa’ now on all streaming platforms.

I am a black girl who loves good music. The commercial and underground South African music scene is buzzing, and I would love my corner of the internet to highlight that buzz.
