It was just on Monday when I heard of Botswana’s finest vocalist and songwriter, Mpho Sebina‘s show at the Artistry Theatre as she prepared to make a special return of her ‘Naked Soul Sessions‘ show in style right in Johannesburg. I didn’t anticipate to plan to purchase tickets as I was excited and needed to wait for the day of the show before I could make a purchase as I am that type of a person.
Nonetheless, to my surprise I received a message in the morning from Mpho inviting me to the show and I immediately accepted. It’s as if she knew that I hadn’t yet bought my tickets and this completely made by day as I speedily began planning for the day towards the late afternoon and to my surprise I made it right on time. I left the house at around 18:15 and only for me to arrive to the venue at 19:00 with a room filled with fans and well respected members within the entertainment and arts space. The phenomenal venue was very much inviting with the warm colours of the wall in the waiting area as well as an amazing opening DJ by the name of Bandulu who is also from Botswana. The music was amazing as well as the drinks and food service.
Whilst we waited for the main show to start, we got to mingle with one another within the room and explore the artificial artistic displays within the facilities. I got to meet amazing individuals and learn in the process of networking. The show then began at around 20:15 as we got moved up to the theatre space led by beautiful wooden staircases. We began sitting and to our excitement Mpho came upon the stage and graced us with her angelic voice and amazing band. The blue spotlight was then shone on her preparing us for the magical experience that she had prepared for us for the night.
She first opened up the set with a bit of classics from her debut project, ‘Neo‘ as well as performing ‘Masa‘ with Thato Jessica and ‘Masculine Divine‘ from her 2nd project ‘Lora‘ featuring Veezo View and some unreleased exclusives. The show was a mind blowing experience as her vocals amplified what the band had worked on, and I found myself singing my lungs out in the comfort of my seat.
This was an amazing show and I hope that many South Africans get to experience it first hand as it grows bigger and many get to understand Mpho Sebina’s music further as this was my first experience of her live performance and I look forward to many more.
To Mpho Sebina: I am grateful for you and will forever be thankful for your overall support and guidance. Thank you so much for constantly releasing art that many of us can relate to and are moved above the realms of the physical body. I pray that God continues to bless you and grant you all your dreams and the wisdom required to maintain those dreams. Wishing you all the best with your path and I am very much excited to see you performing much more. Sending lots of love your way and thank you once again for the invite. It was without a doubt an amazing show and never forget that.
